Adaptation of the adrenal medulla to stress: Pathophysiological implications

نویسندگان

چکیده

There is no life without stress and adaptation to there life. Adaptation requires the intervention of nervous system for proper coordination adjustment intensity response stressful stimuli (stressors). The sympathetic primarily responsible rapid adaptive responses stress, which classic example “fight or flight” response. This mediated by adrenaline secreted from adrenal medulla noradrenaline released both postganglionic neurons. However, inadequate activation, in duration intensity, may be at origin several “stress-related” diseases (hypertension, heart failure, pain, etc.). Although has traditionally been viewed as a one functional unit, idea differentiated contribution between neurons, also with pathophysiological implications, gradually gaining ground. Keywords: stress; system; medulla; chromaffin cell; stress-related

Adrenal Medulla Autografts

In 1959, experiments were begun to provide a more physiological and permanent pacemaker for chronic heart block by placing an autotransplant of either adrenal medulla or thyroid gland into the ventricular myocardium of dogs with complete heart block. The original concept was that the small area of myocardium surrounding the endocrine transplant would be stimulated by relatively high local conce...

Pendrin localizes to the adrenal medulla and modulates catecholamine release.

Pendrin (Slc26a4) is a Cl(-)/HCO3 (-) exchanger expressed in renal intercalated cells and mediates renal Cl(-) absorption. With pendrin gene ablation, blood pressure and vascular volume fall, which increases plasma renin concentration. However, serum aldosterone does not significantly increase in pendrin-null mice, suggesting that pendrin regulates adrenal zona glomerulosa aldosterone productio...

Tyrosine hydroxylase activity and catecholamine biosynthesis in the adrenal medulla of rats during stress.

Chronic hypotension and hypoglycemia are known to increase the capacity for catecholamine biosynthesis in the rat adrenal medulla by increasing the maximal velocity of the rate-limiting enzyme, tyrosine hydroxylase (TH). The present report indicates that the gradual increase in maximal TH activity is preceded by a more rapid increase in the affinity of TH for its pterin cofactor. These short-te...
